Frequently asked Questions
NoxymoCore Framework
We welcome your comments and questions to be answered here...
- Will there be special volume pricing for the deployment-license?If you have more than one server and need several licenses for your business, than just drop us a mail. We will decide from case to case what pricing and/or rebate will be available to you.
- Will there be some AJAX support in NoxymoCore?
Yes. Actually we are working on integrating AJAX and applying it to certain WebObjects-compatible scenarios. This will be available for the next release and for deployment-licensees only! - How is the memory footprint/performance of the framework (e.g. with CRH on)?
Actually the frameworks memory footprint is dependent on which functioanlity you use most. Drawing charts e.g. use up some memory due to its rendering beeing part of java.awt.*, we do our best to do intelligent caching of once generated gfx! We are also thinking about delivering these gfx via an already existing gfx-distribution-mechanism and not relying on ResourceManager for this in the future.
The framework is designed to be used with concurrent request handling (CRH) turned on and by default uses concurrency. - How can I tell my boss about this incredible framework?
Just tell him to shoot at this thing with a developer-license for you toplay withevaluate it. If you recognize that the product does not fit, you saved him the deployment-license-costs, in any case you cleverly invested in the future and its possibilities of your company. - Why should I use NoxymoCore for charts?
jFreeChart is a great product. But it gets significantly easier with NoxymoCore because we standardized the data-API of the chartobjects. We also created an easy to use component, which kills off more than 90% of the configuration and code you usually need to create a chart. 90% less code means 90% less possibility of error. - Does it work with Java 1.5 Release 3 (aka Java 5.0)?
Actually we have a version with "Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_05-83)" running. But we do not recommend the use with 5.0 at this time. There might occur problems which did not reveal in our quality assurance.
Hint: WebObjects itself is not yet 5.0 ready at this time and Apple does not yet support using it with 5.0 (Februrary 7th, 2006). In case you have a problem installing/running under 5.0 please try at first to use NoxymoCore with JRE 1.4 to exclude errors depending on the version. After that you are welcome to contact us, thank you. Be aware of the fact that helper-frameworks on which NoxymoCore relies might also be not yet 5.0 ready and are therefore not yet supported. - Why does there exist a time-limitation (60 days) for the developer license?
It's the best way actually for you to stay up-to-date. Only renewed developer-licenses ensure that you use the latest version of our product, which is important for us to ensure you get the best quality. There is an easy way to get rid of this restriction. ;-) - Is there a limit in the number of columns the NXDisplayGroup can display?
No. Basically you can just extend the existing bindings with further numbered bindings to exceed the already present 7 columns. It's just userfriendly to stay with 7 +/- 2 items, try to keep that in mind. - What are the exact benefits of using the NXPage-wrapper?
This enables a lot of advanced functionality. The first and most important one is an intercomponent-communication-model which all framework-components share. This makes many many things very convenient for you. To name a few: Localization (automatic encoding of pages, rapid-turnaround localization-inspector), Dynamic CSS (rapid turnaround inspector, automatic inclusion of dynamic css-information in the header), Validation on input-components (NXForm...) which talks crossing component-boundaries, inclusion of dynamically computed JavaScript code (e.g. for image caching & input-field-focussing) and so on. If there is a situation where you experience a restriction, please tell us, we will then extend the framework to help you realize your goal. - When will the product BusinessMaker be available and how easy is it to apply custom design (look and feel) and localize to other languages?
BusinessMaker is currently (as a beta) available for free with a deployment-license (just drop us a mail after you bought a deployment-license). It is easy to change any layout or CSS or even the complete app, because you get the complete sourcecode. Localization is a nobrainer because the framework provides everything needed right out-of-the-box. You just use the rapid turnaround localization via the inspector.
